Waterfront Dining in West Fenwick

While the West Fenwick community is not actually an island…

…as Fenwick Island proper is, it does have a LOT of water. This can be seen in photos on this site and elsewhere. There is Assawoman Bay to the south and the Fenwick Ditch to the east (separating West Fenwick from the actual island). The “Ditch” leads to Lighthouse Cove and Little Assawoman Bay to the northeast, which flows into Dirickson Creek to the north. There are also dozens of canals, small creeks and even a few lakes in the West Fenwick Island area.

However, there are only a few places for waterfront dining in West Fenwick. Two that we tend to patronize on a regular basis are…

Crabcake Factory Bayside

CCFB is a comfy place with an awesome view of Assawoman Bay to the south and incredible sunset views to the southwest.

Catch 54 Seafood Restaurant

Waterfront Dining view at Catch 54

Catch 54 is located on Fenwick Ditch where it joins Lighthouse Cove. It provides excellent water views with boating activity and a skyline view of Fenwick Island to keep you entertained while dining or hanging at the bar. The new(er) Papa Grande Mexican-flavor place also has a fine view of The Ditch.

The view from just every table at Catch 54 is one to savor – right along with your dinner.

No Mio Fratello on Trivia Night

We love dining at Mio Fratello but not on Trivia Night!

Remind me, please, to never again take a guest to Mio Fratello Italian Steak House on Trivia Night.

Why not? We got there at seven (prime dinner hour) and should have been “tipped off” by the lack of serious dining patrons and the fact that there was only one person at the bar.

We were given a table in the little alcove room off to the right because we said we were not interested in the Trivia Games. What we wanted was some Veal Parmesan, a Steak and a Bottle of Red – and some salads to keep it all healthy, of course. After several minutes of waiting without having been asked for drink orders – the sound system came on – and the Trivia MC began his banter. We looked at one another and both said something about having dinner in a bingo parlor – but paying for fine dining. No, thanks.

We left – and went to Lombardis Restaurant (94th Street in Ocean City) where I did not order steak (it’s not a steak place) but had some great chicken parm ($13.99 regular price) that was delicious. My guest did get the veal parm. We also had that bottle of wine and a wonderful cannoli for dessert. Lombardi’s is one of our favorite places – a family restaurant, clean and nicely decorated – and we are often greeted by the owner, as we were that evening.

Don’t get me wrong – we love Mio Fratello’s – and go there several times a year (it is close enough to walk in nice weather) and will continue go back – again and again. However, we will make sure it is in “restaurant mode” and not doing bar-games.

I can only imagine taking a dinner guest to Mio Fratello on Wii Bowling night. 🙁

Our Harvest Fenwick Island

A fine dining addition to Fenwick Island

Our Harvest, according to their new website, will open this season and bring expanded fine dining choices to Fenwick Island, joining Mancini’s and One Coastal as another of our upscale places to go.

We like their concept of “harvest” and sourcing their menu choices with fresh farm products.

Our Harvest will is located it the space once occupied by the short-lived Claddagh on the Shore and the long-time run of the House of Welsh. The House of Welsh was a local’s favorite for many years and was followed by Claddagh, which (somehow) we knew wouldn’t make it very long.

One Harvest operated by the owners of the popular and successful Liquid Assets in Ocean City. The owner, obviously has the savvy to run a successful business restaurant here in Fenwick Island. This location appears to have “caught on” and exists to serve the locals as well as the tourists. However, we have not yet been by for a visit…

They are located at 1106 Coastal Highway, Fenwick Island, DE 19944. For more information visit the Our Harvest website at ourharvestde.com or their Facebook page at facebook.com/ourharvestde.
